Singapore Sling

tho I recommend the Hatari Martini instead

L1080535_2.jpg

Clean. Efficient. Organized. Expensive.

The quality level of the service is outstanding and the air is olifactorally pleasing. You certainly pay for what you get. Singapore is continuing to grow and one might argue that if they keep building condos at the current rate, the island might sink.

As suggested in the guide books, the orchid gardens live up to their MUST SEE status, and the botanical gardens are welcoming. Domestic helpers gather there on weekends to enjoy Tai Chi and picnics and likely complain about the huge amounts of stuff in the homes of the expats for whom they do the cooking and cleaning.

On the other side of town, shoppers travel up and down Orchard Street to choose their next Louis Vuitton bag. It would be a shame to have to use one from last season. Singapore provides a reason to shop and more reasons to spend money. The local women like to show off on the outside. That glamour does not translate to the beach however. Unlike their cohorts in Beverly Hills, they would never be caught at the beach or pool. It would require a bathing suit and the risk of tanning.

If there is a need to spend money, one only need go to The Raffles Hotel. This colonial refuge is filled with beauty and history, and the temptation to walk the 45 steps to the long bar can not be avoided. There, you can eat peanuts and toss the shells I the floor without risking deportment or prison time. A week's pay can buy a round of drinks. But you can't help it. No matter the price, a Singapore Sling must be in the mix, since it was invented at this very bar. But the smart drinker will opt for drama and order a specially named martini instead. It arrives in a stemless glass, perched atop a globe filled with red liquid and dry ice. Every time a sip is enjoyed, a cloud pours out below the glass.
Of the outside it all looks official. A S$5000 ( about ($6500) fine if you pull the fire alarm in the subway. And a S$1000 for eating of the train. Internet, movies and television are censored, even if it means cutting out an imperative scene to explain the plot to avoid some cleavage. Behind it all, perhaps something else is going on. And a lot of dollars are changing hands.

This seems to be the only explanation for all of the designer bags being sold in Singapore.
